Extending Your Home? It’s Time to Consider Renewable Energy

If you are looking to extend your home, then you are going to make sure that energy efficiency remains at the forefront of every decision you make. This will mean thinking about cavity insulation where necessary as well as floor insulation, loft insulation and even lighting and your heating system. As we are now being forced to think about the future of our planet, we now have to make greener choices that fall in line with the targets set by the government such as becoming net-zero by 2050 and even removing the installation of gas boilers by 2030. All in, there is a lot of work to be done when it comes to ensuring your home remains energy efficient, greener and adheres to the latest regulations and this is where you should consider renewable energy.

Insulation and Heating

The newly announced Future Homes Standard means that the rules around how a home produces, uses and retains energy is going to be pivotal for all homes of the future. While the law is aimed primarily at new builds, it’s likely that they will have an impact on all changes that are made to any property. This will mean that heating and insulation are going to become serious considerations moving forward.

If you choose to install the right insulation in your home, you can save as much as £375 per year and with the Green Homes Grant Scheme, you could also take advantage of a £5,000 grant that will help to cover the cost of installing your new insulation. The scheme is wide and varied and covers a range of additional energy-saving measures but heating our homes is going to see one of the most significant changes because we now have to consider greener options.

If you are extending your home, you will need to make sure that it meets the required standards, regardless of what your original home is doing. Furthermore, if you are hoping that your existing gas boiler will do the job and be sufficient enough for your new extension then it could be time to think again. Gas boilers are going to be a thing of the past soon, so now could be the perfect time to consider your options and make a change.

If you consider efficiency as part of your design, then you can put yourself ahead and make the switch before renewables become more expensive. What’s more, you could even take advantage of some of the initiatives that are currently available such as the Green Homes Grant or the Renewable Heat Incentive.

Don’t look at the change or switch as a step backwards, but instead, look at how you will be preparing your home for a change that is coming. Renewable heating solutions are changing at an incredible rate, so now is the time to implement a new system into your home. Your home will become more energy-efficient and you will improve your carbon footprint too, furthermore, you might also benefit from the money-back scheme from the government that is quite generous and won’t be in place forever.

Naturally, you are going to want your extension to be comfortable and warm but installing an energy-efficient renewable heating system will be one of the best investments you could make.

Renewable Energy - Make the Most of It

If you want to save money on your bills and play your part in helping the environment then now is the time to consider renewable energy. No longer is the technology lacking because developments have ensured that you can now put your trust in the new systems, making them a feasible alternative to standard installations. What’s more, with government cash returns available, it wouldn’t make sense to stick with an old system that is going to need replacing in the future.

Now is the time to identify and understand the importance of ensuring your extension is well-insulated and also benefits from a heating system that delivers the heat you need. So, look at this as an opportunity to tighten up your insulation and then get your property ready for a different future. A future whereby renewable heating systems will become the norm. You’ve got a range of options available and with the work being carried out on your extensions, it makes sense to tie everything in and make the changes at the same time.
