Boiler Upgrade Scheme Grant QUESTION WARMA

What is the boiler upgrade scheme grant?

The boiler upgrade scheme is a government initiative that offers low-carbon heating alternative upgrades to eligible households. Homes can help reduce energy bills and improve energy efficiency through the use of the scheme. To be eligible for the scheme, you must own your own home and live in either England or Wales. The property you own can be a home or a small non-domestic property. Private landlords and second home-owners are also eligible.

The government is providing grants to encourage property owners to install low carbon heating systems such as air source heat pumps and solar thermal. The boiler upgrade scheme is part of this wider initiative to help the UK meet its carbon reduction targets. If you are thinking about upgrading your boiler, we recommend speaking to Warma UK to see if you could benefit from the scheme.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

The BUS is primarily aimed at private homeowners and landlords. Social housing providers may be eligible for other funding schemes designed to improve energy efficiency in social housing.

While the scheme is scheduled to run until 2025, applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until the allocated funding is exhausted. It’s advisable to apply as early as possible to improve your chances of receiving a grant.

The boiler upgrade scheme is specific to England and Wales. However, Scotland and Northern Ireland have their own initiatives to help residents upgrade their heating systems:

Scotland: Residents can apply for grants and interest-free loans for energy-saving improvements, including boilers and heating systems, through Home Energy Scotland.

Northern Ireland: The boiler replacement scheme offers grants to owner-occupiers to improve the energy efficiency of their homes, but applications are no longer being accepted. The Affordable Warmth Scheme continues to provide support for energy efficiency measures.

Yes, you can still apply for the boiler upgrade scheme (BUS) if you have received previous funding for energy efficiency upgrades such as doors or windows. The scheme is open to homeowners and owners of small business properties in England and Wales, and it does not exclude those who have already received funding to make their property more energy efficient.

As long as you meet the other eligibility criteria, such as owning the property, having a valid Energy Performance Certificate (EPC), and installing or planning to install a new heating system to replace fossil fuel heating, you can apply for the grant.

Yes, landlords can apply for the boiler upgrade scheme (BUS). The scheme is open to all homeowners, including small landlords and private landlords in England and Wales.

As long as the property meets the eligibility criteria and the new heating system is installed to replace an existing fossil fuel heating system, landlords are eligible to apply for the grant.

The maximum capacity for heat pumps under the boiler upgrade scheme (BUS) is 45 kWth. This means that the installed heating system, including air source heat pumps, ground source heat pumps, and biomass boilers, must have a maximum capacity of less than 45 kWth to be eligible for the grant.

The deadline for installations to be completed under the boiler upgrade scheme (BUS) is within 3 months of the issue date for an air source heat pump or biomass boiler, and within 6 months of the issue date for a ground source heat pump.

The time taken to receive the grant under the boiler upgrade scheme (BUS) can vary. However, the scheme does not specify a standard timeline for the disbursement of the grant.

Yes, to be eligible for the boiler upgrade scheme (BUS), your property must have a valid Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) with no outstanding recommendations for loft or cavity wall insulation. If there are outstanding recommendations for loft or cavity wall insulation, you may need to address these before applying for the scheme.

If your application for the boiler upgrade scheme (BUS) is rejected, you have the option to request a statutory review. As an installer, if you believe that a decision made under the BUS is incorrect, such as the rejection of your application, you can request a statutory review.

Don’t often do reviews but felt this warranted one. A little slow getting the fitting date sorted out but once this had been sorted everything was plain sailing from start to finish. Can’t fault the engineer who fitted my combi boiler. Nothing was to much trouble to him, explained everything has he went along. Would recommend without hesitation.

The old boiler and tank were removed and the new condensing boiler fitted by the two installers from XL Heating. They were friendly, informative and tidy, working well as a team for two days. So far very happy.
