The Home Upgrade Grant (HUG) in Mid Sussex District Council is part of a broader initiative to improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions in homes across the district. This program is designed to support residents by offering financial assistance for various energy efficiency improvements, including insulation, solar PV panels, and air source heat pumps. The funding aims to help eligible households heat their homes more affordably, lower their carbon footprint, and save money on fuel bills.

Eligibility and Funding

To be eligible for the Warmer Homes funding through the HUG, your home must have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of E, F, or G, although limited funding is available for EPC D rated properties as well. Additionally, the program targets households with a total annual income of £30,000 or less (before housing costs/bills) or those receiving a means-tested benefit. Up to £25,000 is available per home, and the funding is accessible to both owner-occupiers and those living in privately rented homes. The application process is designed to be straightforward, taking only about 5 minutes to complete online.

Program Benefits

The Warmer Homes Programme, as part of the HUG, offers significant benefits to residents in Mid Sussex. By improving home energy efficiency, the program helps residents stay warmer during the colder months, reduce their energy consumption, and lower their overall energy bills. These improvements not only make homes more comfortable but also contribute to reducing the environmental impact by cutting carbon emissions. The council emphasises the importance of this program in addressing the growing cost of living crisis and the urgent need for energy-efficient solutions in the face of rising energy bills.
